Taxi firm beefs up rewards for commuters

Singapore's largest taxi operator, ComfortDelGro Taxi, has introduced a revamped rewards programme amid rising competition from the private-hire car industry.

Called CabRewards+, it rewards SBS Transit public transport users when they continue their journeys in a ComfortDelGro taxi.

CabRewards+ is an extension of the existing CabRewards programme which was launched in 2014 to reward cab passengers who use cashless payment options.

With the revamp, points can be earned even if it is a cash transaction, and may be redeemed for taxi vouchers, discounts on taxi bookings or free transfers to the airport, among other things.

In the first phase, CabRewards+ will cover ComfortDelGro taxi passengers who transfer to or from SBS Transit buses and the North East Line, Downtown Line, and Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems within 24 hours.

During the month-long promotional period of July, taxi passengers who transfer from SBS Transit bus and train services are entitled to earn 10 times the usual number of points earned.

Commuters will have to download the ComfortDelGro smartphone application and register their ez-link or Nets FlashPay cards. Points will be earned when commuters tap their registered cards on the taxi's cashless payment terminal.

The programme is the first initiative of its kind that integrates bus and train transport systems with taxi services.

ComfortDelGro Taxi chief executive Ang Wei Neng said: "This is a unique position that other providers will find hard to compete with."
