SIA named best business class airline, second overall in Skytrax World Airline Awards

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines was named the world's best business class and the second best airline overall in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, held at the Paris Airshow on Tuesday.

The top overall airline was Qatar Airways. The awards are based on the world's largest passenger satisfaction survey of travellers worldwide.

As the best business class airline, SIA was also among the top performers in the specific business class categories. It came in second for lounges, third for seats, fourth for catering, second for lounge dining and seventh in comfort amenities. The winners in those categories were Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Austrian, Turkish Airlines again, and Qantas Airways respectively.

SIA also had the best first class seats, but was the second best first class airline, after Etihad Airways. SIA was also second best for economy class, after Asiana Airlines.

The carrier also came in third for cabin staff and inflight entertainment. Topping those categories were Garuda Indonesia and Emirates respectively.

For low-cost airlines, SIA's subsidiary airline Scoot was ranked 10th best, and fifth best in Asia. Singapore budget carrier Tigerair came in eighth in Asia. The low-cost category was topped by AirAsia.
