Driver under investigation for overtaking lorry, crashing twice on West Coast Highway

SINGAPORE - The Traffic Police have identified a 28-year-old driver who was involved in an accident along West Coast Highway on Saturday.

The crash which took place after the driver's attempt at a high-speed overtaking manoeuvre was caught on a vehicle's on-board camera. A 20-second video of the incident was uploaded on YouTube on Sunday.

It showed a white car overtaking a lorry - driving on the right-most lane of the three-lane highway - at high speed.

The car's driver, however, appeared to lose control of his vehicle and crashed briefly into the right road barrier. He then swerved all the way to the left-most lane and ended up wedged between the left barrier and a heavy trailer. No one was injured in the incident that happened at about 8.30am.

Investigations are ongoing. The Traffic Police have called for witnesses, and those who recorded the accident on video to provide more information through www.spf.gov.sg/epc/index.html or call 65470000. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
