SINGAPORE - Service on the North East Line (NEL) was delayed on Saturday (Oct 7), the second time in four days.

In a tweet at 12.39pm, train operator SBS Transit said service towards Punggol station was delayed due to a train fault at Sengkang station.

An additional 15 minutes of travel time may be expected in both bounds, said SBS Transit.

About 20 minutes later, SBS Transit tweeted that train service had resumed.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, senior vice-president of corporate communications Tammy Tan said regular service resumed about 10 minutes later when the defective train was taken off the line.

"We apologise to affected commuters for the inconvenience caused," said Ms Tan.

On Tuesday afternoon, there was no train service between Punggol and Buangkok stations due to a train fault.

Service towards Harbourfront station was also delayed, with commuters being told to expect additional travel time of about 20 minutes.
