SINGAPORE - The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been tapping on data analytics to understand commuters' behaviour and travel demand, so as to improve bus services.

It identifies bus routes which have high passenger numbers, and adds new services or buses.

For its efforts, LTA emerged as the overall winner in the Government and Public Sector category at the Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Alliance (APICTA) Award 2014 ceremony held on Nov 30.

LTA's group director for innovation and infocomm technology, Mrs Rosina Howe-Teo, said the award was a validation of the quality of its innovative efforts to enhance public transport services in Singapore.

APICTA consists of 17 member countries, and holds annual awards to recognise innovations in information and communications technology.
