SINGAPORE - Many vented and fumed, but some let off steam rather creatively following Tuesday night's disruption of train services on the North-South and East-West lines.
On Facebook, Billy Teo recounted the travelling nightmare of Tuesday with lyrics that could be sung to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. These were his opening lines:
Is this the rail life?
Is this just fantasy
Caught in a packed ride
No escape from this MRT.
Open your eyes
Look up to the sky
And flee
On the Straits Times Facebook page, Fauzi Taib also wrote a poem and the first two verses went like this:
Today the mrt problem again,
they say because of faulty train.
Weather so hot never rain,
Want go home make heart pain.
Lew tuck yew scold, say why this happen,
Engineer say, damn bo pien.
Everyone angry, buay tahan,
Want to break fast also cannot makan.
On Tuesday night, some kind acts helped harassed commuters smile a little.
Staff at Changi Airport, which houses an MRT station on the East-West line in Terminal 3, provided water to stranded commuters.
Staff at a McDonald's outlet also gave free drinks to people who were caught in the breakdown, a Twitter post pointed out.
"McDonald's serving drinks to the people waiting due to the #SMRT train disruption, such sweet and nice people," wrote Twitter user @lilyjamesgrey.
Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, wrote on his Facebook page about another act of kindness: Car owners who posted offers of rides to people who needed it on the social media page.
A power surge caused the protective relays to be activated, leading to a shut-down of power across the entire North-South East-West Line network, which disrupted train services for more than three hours on Tuesday evening.
The disruption was also one of the trending topics on Twitter, with the hashtag #ThingsIDidWhenMRTWasDown going viral.
