SINGAPORE - The $29 million project to widen Braddell Road will be delayed by a year, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which is looking for a new contractor to finish the works.

Construction to widen the stretch of road between Toa Payoh Lorong 1 and Braddell Flyover slowed down late last year and ceased after appointed contractor Hexagroup reportedly ran into financial problems.

The Singapore firm clinched the project in late 2012 but an LTA spokesman said its contract has been terminated.

LTA said it will appoint a new contractor in a few months through a tender.

In the meantime, it will appoint a caretaker contractor to manage the work site, to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users.

The project is expected to be completed by end-2016 instead of the end of this year.
