SINGAPORE - Some 800 residents from Admiralty gathered to watch the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Woodlands South MRT station on Saturday morning.

The station, part of the upcoming Thomson Line, will be located on Woodlands Avenue 1. The first stretch of three stations from Woodlands North to Woodlands South will be completed by 2019.

Residents also gathered to celebrate National Day at an observance ceremony organised by Admiralty Grassroots Organisations.

Guest of honour Vikram Nair, who is MP for Sembawang GRC, led the group in singing the anthem and reciting the pledge.
