Train fault delays service on East-West line - third incident to hit the line in a day

A train fault delayed service on the East-West line on Monday night - the third fault on the same MRT line in one day.

In the latest incident, passengers were made to alight from the faulty train at Bugis station, before it was pulled out of service. That held up journeys for commuters along the line. The cause of the fault, how long the delay was and exactly what time the incident occurred were not immediately available.

Separately, two other delays had occurred in the morning. A delay was caused by an eastbound train travelling from Pioneer to Queenstown that developed a door fault. Another faulty train caused delays for commuters travelling from Bedok station to Outram Park station.

In both cases, SMRT, which runs the affected train line, told commuters via Twitter to expect 15 minutes of additional travelling time.

These incidents are the latest in a spate of delays and disruptions that hit the public transport operator since the beginning of the year.
