There was a 35-minute delay between Jurong East and Joo Koon MRT stations at 7.15pm on Wednesday evening, said Ms Alina Boey, director of SMRT media and marketing communications.

The train operator said that the delay was due to a "track circuit failure".

To relieve congestion, some westbound trains were made to turnaround at Boon Lay station and free bus bridging services were activated.
