Scottish tourist Laura McAlpine was snapping photos of three vintage Vespas parked against the brilliantly painted walls lining Haji Lane when a man came up to her and asked: "Would you like a ride in these Vespas for free?"

Mrs McAlpine, 51, looked at the founder of Singapore Sidecars, Mr Simon Wong, in slight disbelief at first. But after some persuasion, she and her husband climbed into two sidecars, strapped in and zoomed off with huge smiles.
