SINGAPORE- Thailand's former Permanent Secretary for Defence was presented with Singapore's highest military award on Thursday.
General Sirichai Distakul, Thailand's Minister of Labour, was conferred the Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang (Tentera), also known as the Distinguished Service Order (Military), by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana on Thursday afternoon.
He was given the award for his significant contributions in enhancing defence ties between Singapore and Thailand during his tenure as Thailand's Permanent Secretary for Defence from October last year to October this year.
Under this leadership, both countries worked closer in dealing with natural and humanitarian disasters in the region. Both defence teams interacted frequently through high-level visits, professional exchanges and military exercises.
Guests at the investiture included Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr Ong Ye Kung, Permanent Secretary for Defence, Mr Chan Yeng Kit, as well as senior government officials and military officers from Singapore and Thailand.
