Pay what you will for a gourmet dish by four renowned local chefs, all for a good cause.

Master chefs Eric Teo, Heman Tan, Pung Lu Tin and Charlie Tham will display their culinary prowess at Nex shopping mall on March 19 for an SPD charity show.

Each chef will serve a different gourmet dish to those who donate any amount to SPD, which helps people with disabilities, during the event. Quantities are limited to 200 servings per chef.

In a media event held at the SPD Ability Centre to promote the charity show, Mr Pung, who is also director of the Gim Tim group of restaurants, highlighted the limitations of cooking at a mall atrium.

He said: "We have restrictions in terms of smoke emissions, naked flames, refrigeration and storage of food."

The chefs readily agreed to cook for charity, Ms Siow Pit Chee, executive producer of the show, told The Straits Times.

"Singapore is known for its food culture and the chefs are often seen cooking on television, but most Singaporeans have not had a chance to taste their cooking."

Members of the SPD community will also perform with celebrities during the charity show, which will be broadcast on Channel 8.

Ms Chia Yong Yong, president of SPD, told The Straits Times the show would raise awareness of how people can work towards an inclusive society.
