SINGAPORE - There were plenty of leaps and thrills at the Ngee Ann City civic plaza on Monday (Sept4), as six teams showed off their moves in the semi-finals of the National Lion Dance Championships 2017.

The teams were scored out of 10 points based on three categories - style and movement, art and demonstration as well as difficulty of the stunts. Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu launched the event.

Defending champions, Yi Wei Athletic Association Team A, performed a flawless routine to obtain the highest score of 9.25 out of the six teams.

The eight-member team has been training every day for more than three hours for the past month.

Mr Kiefer Teo, 29, said of his team's performance: "It was a good effort, but could be smoother as one of our teammates is slightly injured."

The semi-finals are held over two days and involves a total of 11 teams. The top eight teams would make it to the finals on Friday and Saturday (Sept 8 and 9).

The finals would also be at Ngee Ann City civic plaza. The public can enjoy free admission.
