The Singapore Embassy in Cairo is expecting another three batches of Singaporean students to come back to Singapore over the course of this week, after 23 Egypt-based students arrived on Wednesday morning.

Responding to queries on the unrest and violence in Egypt, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesman said the embassy has been facilitating the departure of students who want to leave the country. There have been no reports of affected Singaporeans so far and the embassy has kept in close contact with all Singaporeans there who registered with them online.

It has also extended assistance to Singaporeans residing in Egypt by providing information via email and SMS on areas of public disturbances to avoid.

Students staying in Raba'a Al-Adawiyah, where a major sit-in was held, have been relocated to safer locations. "As the security situation took a turn for the worse, the Singapore Embassy officials contacted every registered Singaporean in Egypt on Aug 17 to advise them to consider leaving Egypt during this summer vacation period," the spokesman said.
