Pupil Gerrard Michael, 12, painting a mural on a two-storey shophouse in Aljunied yesterday, with supervision from Ms Linda Lau, (extreme right), a UOB volunteer. Titled "Home" and measuring 7m high by 15m wide, the mural is being created by 30 pupils aged 11 and 12 from the Association for Persons with Special Needs Katong School with guidance from local artist Goh Beng Kwan and 20 staff from United Overseas Bank (UOB). The work is a montage of the students' drawings of people and places in Singapore that are close to their hearts, such as their HDB blocks. Mr Goh, 78, a pioneer Singapore artist and the first winner of the UOB Painting of the Year contest in 1982, said: "I am delighted to help our young Singaporeans use art to express the love for what is dear to them." The project was initiated by UOB to celebrate Singapore's Golden Jubilee by bringing together different generations.
