SINGAPORE - Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) picked up two silver awards for mobile apps at an international competition for creative digital ideas.

The Straits Times SoShiok app won the award in the Food & Beverage category of the 10th annual Davey Awards, while AsiaOne's iPad app was recognised in the News category.

The Straits Times' associate editor and Life! editor Helen Chia said in a statement on Monday: "This is a lovely early Christmas present for the team who worked very hard to create an easy-to-use app for foodies. The award will spur us to improve the app and enhance the user experience."

The Davey Awards is a United States-based international award judged by a panel of Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts members from advertising and marketing firms such as Disney, Microsoft and MTV.

The SPH apps were up against more than 4,000 entries this year.

AsiaOne editor Adrian Tay said: "Mobile readers are very important to us, and we are constantly improving our mobile and tablet offerings to cater to them.

"Getting such recognition for our iPad app shows that our products are on the right track and keeping up with the best international standards."
