* Singaporean Mustafa Sultan Ali, 51, has been detained under the Internal Security Act for trying to join militant group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He is the first Singaporean to be arrested abroad for trying to join ISIS. 

* POSB Bank's new Fare Free Friday scheme will give 100,000 commuters unlimited free travel on trains and buses on Fridays, from July 31 till the end of the year.

* A driver's attempt at overtaking a lorry at high speed ended up in two successive crashes and being wedged between a semi-trailer and a road divider.
