The Seletar Mall gets BCA Green Mark (Gold) award for energy and water efficiency

The Seletar Mall's lighting design maximises the use of sunlight while minimising the need for artificial lighting during the day. It also has a presence detection system in toilets and staircases to lower lighting energy usage.

For its energy and water efficiency, among other things, the mall in Sengkang earned a Green Mark (Gold) award from the Building & Construction Authority (BCA).

A joint venture development by Singapore Press Holdings and United Engineers, the mall is expected to open at the end of this year.

It was noted that the shopping centre has energy-efficient air conditioning systems, and escalators which reduce speed automatically when it is not used. It also provides private meters to monitor the major water usage system, which allows for better control of water usage and assessing possible locations of leakage. Collection of rainwater for watering the landscape also reduces water consumption.

Waste management and recycling initiatives are also in place.

The shopping centre also has UV emitters installed for better indoor air quality and energy efficiency, which help to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the mall.
