Worried about not being able to upload to Facebook or Twitter your photos of the New Year's fireworks when the clock strikes 12 in the Marina Bay area?

The three telcos have assured that they are boosting their mobile networks in the area for today's New Year's Eve countdown celebrations.

SingTel said it is boosting capacity to allow more people to connect to its 3G and 4G mobile networks at the Promontory@Marina Bay and the Marina Bay Sands Mist Walk walkway for the New Year's Eve countdown celebrations today.

The telco has deployed a mobile base station located near Marina Bay City Gallery, since Monday for this. Called Cellular On Wheels, the van has a base station that can allow 500 more 3G and 4G SingTel subscribers to connect to the telco's network within a 200m radius.

The location was chosen as SingTel expects many people to be in the vicinity to catch the fireworks. Cellular On Wheels will leave Marina Bay on Thursday.

StarHub said that its engineers will generally do inspections at sites where major events will be held months ahead of time. They will make adjustments to the telco's network to ensure it can handle a large number of subscribers at these events.

For today's countdown celebrations at Marina Bay, StarHub's engineers will monitor its network, such as for subscribers' average mobile surfing speeds.

If network issues should arise, the network will be tweaked by the engineers to address them.

M1 said that it has also set up a mobile base station that can boost its mobile network in Marina Bay to allow more of its subscribers to surf on the telco's mobile network tonight.

All three telcos had also made arrangements to boost their mobile networks for this year's F1 night race.

SingTel said it currently has one Cellular On Wheels van and it intends to deploy the mobile base station in Chinatown for next year's Chinese New Year Eve celebrations and for other festive occasions with crowds.
