Teenagers arrested for stealing motorcycle and hurting police officer

Three teenagers who allegedly involved in stealing a motorcycle and running it into a police officer were arrested on Thursday.

Aged 16, 17 and 18, the trio are believed to have stolen a motorcycle from an Yishun car park on Wednesday, said a police statement released on Friday.

When police tracked down the vehicle in question, one officer signalled for the rider to stop, but the latter deliberately accelerated instead, knocking into the officer and causing superficial injuries.

Both rider and pillion then abandoned the motorcycle and fled. Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio had stolen the motorcycle together before two of them took it for a joyride.

All three were arrested for theft of motor vehicle and rash act causing hurt, and could face jail time or fines, or both.
