Teenager lies about being robbed, makes false claim to police

A 19-year-old man has been arrested for making false claims to the police.

The teenager called the police on Sept 5, claiming that two unknown men had used a parang and robbed him of about $2,000 in cash at Sims Drive.

Officers from the Bedok Police Division investigated, and found discrepancies in the information the man provided. After he was interviewed by the investigation officer, he finally admitted he had made a false claim.

Under the Telecommunications Act, anyone convicted of sending information he knows to be false can be jailed for not more than three years, or fined not more than $10,000, or both.
