Police arrested a 19-year-old man on Tuesday for extorting nude photos from a woman over the Internet.

The victim lodged a police report on May 10 about an anonymous user who had sent a private message to her on a social networking website, claiming to have found some of her nude photos online and threatening to circulate the pictures if she did not send over more such photos.

Three months later, the suspect was arrested at his home in the vicinity of Tampines Street 42 for an offence of Criminal Intimidation.

Preliminary findings show that both the victim and suspect are not known to each other, and that the suspect had indeed come across nude photographs of the victim online and before devising his extortion plan.

Investigations are ongoing, and if convicted, the suspect could face a jail term up to two years, with fine, or both.
