Teen investigated for making false report on attempted robbery

Police are investigating a 16-year-old for making a false police report, alleging that he had been robbed in the vicinity of Tanglin Halt Road.

On April 17 at about 7.30 pm, the 16-year-old told the police that an unknown man armed with a knife had confronted him and demanded his mobile phone. He said he was not hurt and that the man eventually fled the scene without taking his mobile phone after some passers-by shouted at the man.

Through follow-up investigations and subsequent interviews, the police established that the victim had actually made a false report.

Investigations against the teen are ongoing. If found guilty, he faces a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
