SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a hit-and-run accident in July last year.

The man was arrested in Malaysia on Wednesday (Feb 15) for causing death by a negligent act, police said.

An 80-year-old pedestrian died of his injuries after being hit by a bus at a pedestrian crossing along the junction of Woodlands Avenue 7 and Woodlands Avenue 2.

The accident happened on July 9, 2016, at about 11pm.

The octogenarian passed away on July 16.

A warrant of arrest was issued by Singapore, and the suspect was nabbed by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP).

He was handed over the traffic police on Thursday.

If convicted, he can be jailed to two years and/or fined.

Commander of the Traffic Police, senior assistant commissioner of police, Sam Tee, expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian police for their help in the arrest.

"The arrest of the suspect was made possible through the strong support of the RMP, whom we share close ties with," he said.

"The SPF will do its utmost to track down those who have committed crimes here and flee Singapore thereafter."
