SINGAPORE - StarHub users were told they could "press the blue button to buy instantly" a virtual seat for the "Fight of the Century," between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao on Sunday.
But many viewers did not get to buy access to the match on a pay-per-view channel, much less get it instantly. Frustrated, they turned to StarHub's Facebook page to complain.
Some received "error" or "signal not available" messages, while others said they were not able to receive the feed despite paying $39.90 for the service.
In response, StarHub replied on Facebook that it was experiencing a "high surge in volume" and asked netizens if they were able to subscribe in time to watch the match.
Starhub said in a statement that most customers managed to sign up by noon for the telecast of the fight.
"We noticed a spike in traffic for both our hotline and Instant Buy via the set-top boxes after the 'live' telecast feed commenced at about 9am yesterday. Around noon, we understand that most of our customers had successfully signed up to catch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight," Starhub said.
Some netizens requested a refund, as they only managed to watch half-way through the match.
