StarHub is adding a new Internet exchange in the western part of Singapore, adding to its existing ones in the east and central regions.

Announcing this at a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, StarHub chief executive Tan Tong Hai said that the new facility, called "MediaHub", will be connected to all its core networks - mobile, cable and terrestrial submarine cable.

The six storey building will also house a social media analytics lab, a TV production studio, a network monitoring centre and an incubation lab for start-ups.

So far, SingTel has the most number of Internet exchanges in Singapore. One of them was disrupted by a fire last month that brought down Internet connections to many key sectors here.
