The contest to win a brand new Land Rover Discovery Sport stepped up a gear yesterday as almost 65,000 entries from readers were whittled down to a shortlist of 2,000.

The vehicle - worth $165,000 excluding certificate of entitlement - is the top prize in this year's ST170 Treats competition, marking The Straits Times' 170th anniversary.

Entries closed last Friday and the lucky winner will be picked at random in a grand draw which will be held at The Straits Times Run on Sept 27 .

The 2,000 shortlisted readers will be notified by phone or e-mail. The winner must be present at the event in order to receive the car.

The grand draw will be held at the Hub at the National Stadium between 10am and 11am, and ST editor Warren Fernandez will present the keys to the car to the winner.

Mr Fernandez said: "The response from our readers has been tremendous. No wonder, given the attractiveness of he prize. We're all looking forward to handing over the keys to this dream car to one lucky Straits Times reader at the Sports Hub next month.

"I wish everyone the best of luck!"
