More than 20 staff from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) distributed festive goodie bags to 170 senior citizens at Lions Befrienders (Ang Mo Kio) Senior Activity Centre yesterday.

As part of the SPH Staff Volunteers Club's annual "SPH Cares with Bags of Love" event in the lead-up to Chinese New Year, the 60 seniors present also got to enjoy a lo hei session and a friendly game of bingo with the volunteers.

Mr Swee Kian Yang, assistant pre-press foreman of the production division, dressed up as the God of Fortune to bring festive cheer to the elderly.

Staff also visited the homes of the seniors who were not present to distribute the bags to them. Each festive bag contained groceries such as rice, canned razor clams, biscuits, drinks and Mandarin oranges, and household items such as pain relief patches, a clutch wallet, a towel and a copy of The New Paper among other items.

Mr William Loh, chairman of Lions Befrienders, said: "It's fun for them compared to staying in their one-room flats, which (they say) is very boring."
