SPH Gift of Music free concert series to kick off this Sunday

SINGAPORE - Music lovers are in for a treat this year, with 26 free concerts to be staged around Singapore.

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) will launch SPH Gift of Music this Sunday, its free year-long community concert series.

Performances will be held at concert halls, shopping malls, parks, heartland areas and the Esplanade.

The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Ding Yi Music Company will be among the groups taking part.

Since its launch a decade ago, SPH Gift of Music has grown and given more local musicians a platform to showcase their talent.

Mr Alan Chan, chief executive officer of SPH, said: "Through this sponsorship, we have brought the best of Singapore music for all to share."

For its 10th anniversary, the series will partner the Orchestra for the Music Makers (OMM) and the SYC Ensemble Singers.

The OMM, which comprises young musicians and has made international headlines, will perform at the Esplanade in July this year as its SG50 gift to the nation.

To kick off SPH Gift of Music, SSO will perform at Gardens by the Bay this Sunday.

The SSO is also set to perform at the Singapore Botanic Gardens in July to celebrate the 170th anniversary of The Straits Times.

Other highlights of the series include performances by Malay and Indian arts groups.

"We hope that SPH Gift of Music will enrich the lives of Singaporeans for many years to come," Mr Chan said.
