SINGAPORE - Smoke was detected at energy utility company SP Group's building at 2 Kallang Sector on Monday (Oct 9) afternoon, with the entire building evacuated.
SP Group said in a statement that the smoke was discovered coming from a server room on the ground floor around 4.15pm.
Staff, visitors and vendors were immediately evacuated, and no one was injured. More than 1,000 people were evacuated, a spokesman told The Straits Times.
The company later added in an update on its Facebook page that no open fire was detected.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force told The Straits Times that it was alerted at 4.27pm and dispatched its resources to the scene.
"When we arrived, there was no sign of smoke or fire," said the spokesman. The incident is still being investigated.
SP Group said the incident did not cause any disruption to electricity and gas supply operations. It added that customer service has not been affected, but said "some customers may expect a longer waiting time for their calls to be attended to".
SCDF gave the green light for occupants to return to the building at about 5.45pm to retrieve their belongings, before leaving the building as a precautionary measure.
"We are working closely with SCDF to conduct a thorough check of the building before normal activities resume," said SP Group. "We are still investigating the cause of the incident."
