SMU renames student counselling centre in honour of philanthropist

The Singapore Management University (SMU) has renamed its student counselling centre as the Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Student Wellness Centre, after Mrs Wong pledged a $1.6 million donation to the university.

Previously known as the Centre for Counselling and Guidance, the facility aims to provide SMU students with mental health support through counselling and seminars. It is sited at the university's concourse.

This is Mrs Wong's second donation to SMU. The 74-year-old philanthropist had donated $1 million to SMU in 2007 to set up a scholarship for three needy undergraduates a year. Since 2007, 18 students have benefited from the scholarship so far.

The donation will be used to fund the centre's relocation and renovation costs, and support its existing programmes.
