Singapore Technologies (ST) Electronics started designing and developing Singapore's first commercial satellite.
The satellite images can be used for various functions including disaster monitoring and management, mineral exploration, precision farming, environmental monitoring, and climate change studies.
In a statement released on Thursday, ST Electronics said the Singapore-made TeLEOS-1, an earth observation satellite, is targeted to be ready for use in 2015. It is being developed by ST Electronics subsidiary ST Electronics (Satellite Services).
Weighing about 400kg, TeLEOS-1 is designed to orbit around the equator, at an orbital height of about 550km.
