Thousands of people shared their memories of different places in Singapore at the SG Heart Map event held over the weekend.
Contributions included places like Singapore Polytechnic, where one 21-year-old woman met her boyfriend in 2010.
Others chose places which have disappeared, such as the now defunct New World Amusement Park in Jalan Besar, where a woman in her 70s remembers enjoying snacks in the 1960s.
Mr Lee Kong Lin, 72, director of an oil company, submitted an account about the now demolished shophouse No. 44 in Selegie Road where he was born. "Singapore has changed rapidly, so it is good for us to be able to remember these old nostalgic locations."
For retired secretary Dora Lim, 67, her neighbourhood of Khatib, where she has lived for 14 years, is significant to her because it is where she spends the most time.
Such personal accounts were plotted with balloons on a map of Singapore over the weekend at the HDB Hub Mall in Toa Payoh.
They will be uploaded on to the website www.heartmap.sg as Singapore celebrates its 50th birthday next year.
The project is an SG50 programme and will be going to various locations, including shopping malls, till March.
There will be vans and booths where people can submit their memories and they can also do so online. From the list, 50 locations will be chosen to be showcased in SG50 events.
