Singaporean man missing in Hawaii after being swept into sea

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Hawaii after a Singaporean man was swept off the shore by a powerful wave on Monday.

Hawaiian media reports said the missing man is Mr Phua Chuan Chin, 62, who was walking along the shoreline at Kauai's north shore when the incident happened.

Witnesses were quoted as saying that Mr Phua and three other people were hit by the wave while walking along the shoreline near Kalihiwai Point, just east of the Kalihiwai Bay. Mr Phua and another man were swept into the ocean.

The second man was able to make it back to shore.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it is aware of the case. The Consulate-General in San Francisco is also aware, and they are in touch with his family to render consular assistance, he said.
