SINGAPORE - Bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Indonesia remain strong, said the Defence Ministry in a statement on Monday.

The relationship was reaffirmed by Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen and his Indonesian counterpart retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu on Dr Ng's two-day visit to Indonesia.

During the meeting, they discussed the haze situation in Indonesia, and Dr Ng repeated the Singapore Armed Forces' offer to support Indonesia's haze mitigation efforts. He had earlier inspected a Guard of Honour with the retired general.

As part of his visit, Dr Ng also called on Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs retired Gen Luhut Panjaitan.

The statement added that Singapore and Indonesia regularly engage in professional and bilateral exchanges such as Exercise Elang Indopura, Exercise Safkar Indopura and Exercise Eagle Indopura, on top of forums such as the Shangri-La Dialogue, the Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.

Dr Ng leaves Indonesia on Tuesday.
