SINGAPORE - Orchard Road shopping mall 313@somerset was hit by a blackout which lasted slightly over an hour on Thursday (June 22).

Social media was abuzz with pictures and videos of the blackout, which apparently affected all eight floors of the mall.

According to some Twitter users, though most of the shops had no lighting, the escalators and corridor lights were still working.

Ms Cheryl Goh, the mall's general manager, told The Straits Times that the blackout occurred around 7.10pm, with power being restored and all lights turned back on at around 8.20pm.

She explained that the blackout was due to a power trip.

"Action was immediately taken to rectify the blackout... the management is currently investigating the cause and regret(s) any inconvenience caused earlier in the evening," Ms Goh added.

The mall was closed briefly on Dec 16 last year after a fire broke out the night before.
