SINGAPORE - Excited netizens were quick to snap photos and videos on Friday (Sept 30) evening when a double rainbow was spotted in the Singapore skyline.
From HarbourFront to Jurong, delighted Singaporeans shared photos of the phenomenon on social media, accompanied by cheerful captions and emojis.
In some cultures, sightings of double rainbows are considered signs of good fortune.
The phenomenon occurs when light reflects inside raindrops twice, creating a second spectrum across the sky. The second rainbow is often at a different angle as the first and features colours in reverse order. It also tends to be fainter than the first arc, which sometimes makes it hard to capture in photos.
A double rainbow seen in Singapore in July last year also created waves of excitement across the island.
PM Lee Hsien Loong shared on Saturday (Oct 1) Ed Cheong's photo of the rainbow at the Singapore River. A known photo buff, PM Lee also asked Facebook users to share their photos of the double rainbow.
