Search and rescue operation for man who had fallen overboard from Singapore ferry

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is coordinating a search and rescue operation for a man who had fallen overboard from a passenger ferry on Thursday, the authority said in a statement on Friday morning.

At about 7.30 pm on Jan 16, the MPA received a report that a man had fallen overboard from the Singapore-flagged passenger ferry Asean Raider 2 about 4km south-east of Kusu Island in the Singapore Strait. The ferry was en-route from Singapore's Regional Ferry Terminal (Harbour Front), to Batu Ampar, Batam, Indonesia.

MPA said it is coordinating the search and rescue operations involving two MPA craft, one Police Coast Guard craft and one Republic of Singapore Navy patrol vessel. It said that it had also issued an urgent safety broadcast to vessels in the vicinity to keep a lookout and report any sightings of the missing person.

MPA is investigating the incident.
