Running to bring extra relief to others

Singapore's young netballers will get a taste of helping out in a relief effort when they take part in Ground Zero - Run for Humanity 2016, Mercy Relief's flagship fund-raising event.

As part of Netball Singapore's three-year partnership with Mercy Relief, its first adopted charity, 11 of its Under-21 players will run while carrying relief-food packets weighing 7kg at the Aug 14 event at East Coast Park.

After the run, 10 senior netballers will distribute the packets, which will include rice, sugar, cooking oil and Milo, to underprivileged families.

Said Mercy Relief's executive director Zhang Tingjun, a 33-year-old ex-national netballer: "We want the netballers to come together as a community to be more than athletes, to give back in a compassionate and respectful manner."
