Road safety efforts stepped up for heavy vehicles

As part of the Safer Roads Singapore strategy announced last month, the Traffic Police are stepping up their efforts to reduce the number of offences involving heavy vehicles.

Pamphlets are being given out to heavy vehicle drivers when they are stopped for traffic violations to remind them of the importance of road safety.

The Traffic Police have also conducted regular safety talks with heavy vehicle companies and associations to reinforce a sense of road safety awareness amongst drivers.

These measures are being carried out in addition to the Traffic Police's regular patrols in areas with a large volume of heavy vehicle traffic, such as Tuas, Punggol, and Changi.

The number of summons issued for heavy vehicle offences rose from 4,294 in 2011 to 4,441 last year.
