Revamped sports park for Ang Mo Kio-Hougang residents

SINGAPORE - Ang Mo Kio-Hougang residents will get more fitness facilities following a revamp of their neighbourhood park.

The Ci Yuan Sports Park at Hougang Avenue 8 was unveiled on Sunday by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who is grassroots adviser and MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC.

Along with fellow Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Darryl David, he joined more than a thousand residents in doing workouts, street soccer, and trying out a dragon boat simulator at a sports carnival.

The $1.2 million renovation of the 12-year-old park, which started last year, has added new facilities such as three-generational fitness equipment and a children's playground, while upgrading areas such as the jogging track and basketball court.

Hougang residents Patrick and Veronica Wong said they were glad that the space had been upgraded, as it allows their seven children aged five to 19 more opportunities to try out sports.

Said Mrs Wong, 48, a housewife: "I'm quite impressed by the space and infrastructure. It's a luxury to have this kind of space so near us, because everywhere is so built-up around here."
