Residents in 3 sectors to pay higher waste collection fees from October

Residents of Jurong, Clementi and the city sector will have to pay a higher waste collection fee from next month. The city sector covers Tanjong Pagar Road, Serangoon Road, and Old Airport Road.

Those living in Housing Board flats in the three sectors will have to pay $7.49 per month. Currently, those living in Jurong pay $6.08, those in Clementi $4.69, and the city sector pay $4.31.

Residents of landed properties in those areas will see their waste collection fee rise to $24.81 from next month. This is up from $20.33 that residents of Jurong currently pay, $18.60 for those in Clementi, and $18.19 for those in the city sector.

The waste collection fees for these area were set in 2006. Since then, cost of waste collection has increased on the back of rising fuel prices and manpower cost, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in a statement on Friday. The increase in waste collection fee is part of NEA's Uniform Fee scheme where all households pay the same fees for the same tier of waste collection services.
