SINGAPORE - Singaporean children who are living abroad and wish to enrol in a school here can start registering from Tuesday (July 4).

In a press release on Monday, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said the School Placement for Returning Singaporeans (Spers) exercise will open for registration for those who wish to join secondary schools, junior colleges or Millennia Institute (MI) at the beginning of academic year 2018.

Spers, a centralised placement exercise held at the end of the year, helps the children of Singaporean parents working abroad with easier re-entry into the mainstream school system.

The children will need to take only one set of centralised Spers tests for school admission, MOE added.

Those seeking admission to Secondary 1 to 3 next year can take the Spers-Sec test on Sept 20, while those looking to join Pre-University 1 can take the Spers JC/MI tests on Nov 16.

Applicants will receive their school placement results in December and can join secondary schools or junior colleges at the start of the school term in early 2018.

For more information, returning Singaporeans can visit the MOE website at https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/returning-singaporeans/

They can also contact the MOE Customer Service Centre on 6872-2220 or e-mail MOE_Returnhome@moe.gov.sg
