SINGAPORE - More than 10,000 people and 5,000 pets packed Hall 7 of the Singapore Expo on Friday (March 25) for the first day of the Pet Expo - a record for the three-day event.

First day numbers in previous years were lower for the event, which showcases businesses as well as educational and social activities related to pets.

Total attendance for the first show in 2014 was 18,000, and this grew to 26,000 in 2015. Organiser MP Singapore expects 30,000 people this year.

Among the 75 exhibitors for the 2016 edition of the Pet Expo are the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority and various pet food and accessory retailers.

Highlights of day one included a meet-and-greet with cat behaviourist Jackson Galaxy, host of television show My Cat From Hell, and Shiba Inu and Siberian Husky dog breed races.

The Pet Expo runs until Sunday.
