Primary 4 pupils at Bedok Green Primary on Monday gave Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Mr Lawrence Wong a short lesson in batik painting.

The youngsters at the primary school have been taking these painting lessons as part of their school curriculum. Local artist and arts educator, Mr Ika Zahri, has been helping them perfect the art.

The school tapped on its $8,000 Arts and Culture Presentation Grant which it received in February. A total of 36 education institutions were awarded this grant. The grant is an initiative by the National Arts Council and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Ministry of Education, National Heritage Board, and is co-funded by the Tote Board.

The scheme provides each school up to $10,000 to support them to carry out arts and heritage activities for one year.
