SINGAPORE - A team of medics from Pulau Tekong who saved a man's life were singled out for praise by Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen on Monday (Feb 27).

Last month, Mr Phua Yong Teck, 55, suffered a cardiac arrest while working on Pulau Tekong, and was taken to Rocky Hill Medical Centre for medical treatment.

Lieutenant (Dr) Yap Guan Hui and his medics, 3rd Sergeant Muhamad Nur Yassin Mohamed Hanif, Corporal Muhammad Zakaria Mohd Zaid and Lance Corporal Karuppiah Adiram acted fast by performing emergency resuscitation while Mr Phua was on his way to Singapore General Hospital.

Their speedy intervention saved Mr Phua's life, wrote Dr Ng in his Facebook post.

The contractor is now recovering at home, after spending the first week in the Intensive Care Unit, he added.
