Public advised to be mindful when making donations

SINGAPORE - Members of the public are advised to be mindful when donating to their choice of charities, the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) said on Tuesday.

This comes after the recent earthquake in Nepal, which had Singaporeans donating generously to fundraising drives that aid relief efforts.

The NVPC added that while there are many such donation drives, set up by non-government organisations and registered charities to help those affected by the earthquake, donors should be vigilant in their giving.

The NVPC encourages donors to check whether an organisation is a registered charity, and to give via a recognised charity's website or a secured donation portal.

When in doubt, they should contact the charity directly for clarification.
