President Tony Tan Keng Yam will be in Malaysia from Wednesday to Friday on a state visit during which he will meet the Malaysian King Tuanku Abdul Halim and Prime Minister Najib Razak.
This will be only the third state visit by a Singapore President to Malaysia since independence in 1965.
The first was by President Wee Kim Wee in 1991 and the second by President S R Nathan in 2005.
Dr Tan, who is the Chancellor of the National University of Singapore, will also visit Universiti Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
He will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs Mary Tan, and National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan and Mrs Khaw, and officials.
During his absence, Mr J Y Pillay, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, will exercise the functions of the office of President of the Republic of Singapore, a statement from the President's Office said.
