President Tony Tan on state visit to Myanmar from Apr 1

President Tony Tan Keng Yam will make a state visit to Myanmar from April 1 to 5, 2013 on the invitation of Myanmar President Thein Sein.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Mr Tan will visit Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Yangon.

During his visit, besides calling on Mr Thein Sein, Mr Tan will also call on Speaker of Myanmar's Lower House of Parliament Mr Shwe Mann and Chairperson of the National League for Democracy Ms Aung San Suu Kyi. He will be hosted to a state banquet in Nay Pyi Taw, while in Mandalay and Yangon, Mr Tan is scheduled to meet with the regions chief ministers.

Mr Tan will view a paediatric emergency care training programme, which is funded by Temasek Foundation and conducted by the KK Women's and Children's Hospital, in Mandalay.

In Yangon, he will officiate the opening of the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore office, and meet with Singaporean businessmen and officials from the Myanmar economic agencies. He will also meet with overseas Singaporeans based in Myanmar over a dinner reception.

Mr Tan will be accompanied by Mrs Tan, Minister for National Development Mr Khaw Boon Wan and Mrs Khaw, Minister of State for Trade and Industry Mr Teo Ser Luck, Members of Parliament Ms Irene Ng and Ms Tin Pei Ling; and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Housing Development Board, the MFA statement added.
